Ameritech Corp and IBM Corp have chosen the Chicago suburb of Arlington Heights for a customer service center to support their planned desktop support business. The center may employ as many as 800 people, some 600 of which in new jobs in their alliance that will sell voice, data and video-managed desktop communications and computing services for businesses. The two say the base will be the first of its kind in providing customers with round the clock, single phone call support for integrated voice, data and video services. They will spend $10m for initial renovations, furnishings and equipment at the 130,000 square foot facility, which is set for mid-October occupancy.
