AMERITCH’S APPLIED DATA RESEARCH UNIT WINS $7M ORDER FROM 3M

By CBR Staff Writer

Ameritech’s Applied Data Research unit has won a $7m order from 3m, Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing, for its Datacom/DB relational database management system and associated tools, including Total Transparency, a package that automatically migrates applications from Cincom Systems’ Total – 3M’s current DBMS – to Datacom/DB; Datacom/DB, which will be installed in over 20 sites worldwide, beat off competition, in a two-year evaluation, from Software AG’s Adabas and Cincom’s Supra; as we reported in CI No 570, the loss of 3M will be a psychological blow to Cincom because the diversified St Paul, Minnesota firm was its first customer in Europe.
