AMERICAN AIRLINES TO USE IBM PERSONAL SYSTEM/2s FOR SABRE

American Airlines is the first major user to commit to IBM’s Personal System/2: the airline is planning to standardise on the machines as travel agents’ terminals for its Sabre ticket reservation system, which could be bad news for the major suppliers of 3270s to airlines, notably Telex Corp; there are about 12,000 US travel agents on line to Sabre; no value was put on the business, but American puts in about 4,000 new screens a year.
