American Airlines’ AMR Information Services unit is seeking to drive its Sabre airline reservation system and software harder by forming a joint venture to develop and market a computerised reservation service for hotels and car rental agencies. The partners in the venture are the Hilton and Marriott hotel chains and the Budget car rental service and they plan to develop a system compatible with Sabre under the name Confirm. Development is expected to take about six months.
