America Online Inc has promised users a new version of its software, AOL 5.0. Beta testing will being in the next few weeks ahead of a general rollout later this year. New features include a revamped Welcome Screen, a photo exchange facility developed with Eastman Kodak, an interactive calendar, personalization capabilities and a new search engine based on technology from Inktomi Corp. AOL 5.0 will also support broadband access and will enable Palm users to pick up their email on their handheld device.
