Amdahl Corp has signed an UKP8m deal to supply the mail order company Grattan, the subsidiary of the Next retail chain, with a 5890-600E mainframe: Grattan was set up in January 1988 and will use its new computer to handle Next’s mail-order and retail transactions; the company already has an Amdahl 5890-300 which is used for telephone order processing, inventory control and automated warehousing.
