Amdahl Corp says that its second quarter results, a particularly disappointing set of figures with net income reduced to $6.3m from UKP46.3m last time, are due to the weakness of the European markets, especially the UK; this weakness was exacerbated by a stronger dollar and competitive pressures on pricing; without a marked improvement in global economic conditions, the company says that better results are unlikely before the fourth quarter; even then, initial contributions from new products will be limited, although earnings are expected to pick up once peak production levels are reached – far off in the second half of next year.
