Amdahl Corp is recalling around 250 of its 6380K disk drives and has suspended all new shipments for the present: Meta Group says contaminants within the sealed disk enclosure are resulting in hard errors, and Amdahl acknowledges that the problem is due to a batch of defective filters but says that to date no European user has suffered a disk failure after installation; the problem came to Amdahl’s attention when the first of several US customers suffered a failure, and the company has been monitoring the situation over the past few weeks.
