AMDAHL HOPES TO SEE OFF IBM WITH $12.50 A SHARE FOR DMR

By CBR Staff Writer

Amdahl Corp says its Canadian unit has raised its offer for DMR Group Inc to $Can12.50 from $Can8.25 per share and extended the bid to November 15, topping the $Can11 a share bid from IBM Canada Ltd and making observers suspect that IBM may simply want to squeeze Amdahl by making it pay more than it needed to. Amdahl now holds 54% of the equity after Oppenheimer & Co, Bear Stearns & Co and Highbridge Capital Management agreed to tender their shares. The third contender, BDM International Inc, has dropped out.
