AMDAHL ENHANCES EXISTING 5995M LINE MACHINES

By CBR Staff Writer

Following its launch of new machines in the 5995M line (CI No 2,382), Amdahl Corp has announced enhancements to existing models. The most important of these are additions to the company’s Multiple Domain Feature, which provides logical processor partitioning that enables the user to run multiple operating systems and applications simultaneously. Enhancements include an Event Conscious Resource Scheduler, Enterprise Systems Connection – Escon, Multiple Image Facility, and Dynamic Reconfiguration management support. Amdahl says that many of the enhancements are unique to the company’s products, such as support for 10- and 12-way multiprocessing complexes, support for main storage configurations greater than 2Gb, up to 12 logical processors assigned to each domain, and the Amdahl Performance Analysis Facility 2.2. A single-sided 5995M processor can support up to seven domains. Finally, Amdahl is also promising support for data compression and the Asynchronous Data Mover facility; these will be available on 5995M machines in the second and fourth quarter respectively.
