AMDAHL DECIDES THERE ARE NO INSUPERABLE PROBLEMS IN SUPPORTING IBM’S LATEST ESA/390 EXTENSIONS

By CBR Staff Writer

Amdahl Corp has looked into the implications and has now announced that it intends to support the ESA/390 architectural extensions for large-scale processors launched last month by IBM Corp (CI No 2,397). The company also said that all of its processors qualify for IBM’s new software licence options, including the Enterprise Agreement Programme and the Measured Usage Licence Charge. Amdahl’s plans for the ESA/390 extensions include participation in System/390 Parallel Sysplex, meeting the entitlement criteria for Parallel Sysplex software pricing, and support for the Subspace Group Facility on Amdahl’s 5995M Series processors. The company also intends to support the MVS/ESA Version 5 Release 1 and VM/ESA 2.2 operating systems on 5995M, 5995A, 5990, and 5890 series of processors. In addition, Amdahl announced that attachment to the IBM System/390 Parallel Query Server is available now via Escon channels on the company’s 5995M, 5995A and 5990 processors. The company promises more information once it has had product specifications from IBM.
