Amdahl Corp has answered IBM Corp’s 3390-9 disk drive with its own 6395-9, describing it as a disk array for on-line storage of hierarchical and other less frequently accessed data. Prices go from $133,975 to $636,750 but it won’t be available until the third quarter of 1994. Amdahl also added a new data characterisation service and a new data migration service to its storage consulting services. Data characterisation takes from eight to 12 weeks to complete at from $40,000 to $60,000. The data migration service takes from 10 weeks to 16 weeks to complete and costs $50,000 to $85,000.
