Sunnyvale, California-based Amdahl Corp has retained Software One Ltd of Marlow, Buckinghamshire to provide an open interface to Amdahl’s new Huron mainframe applications development and production environment from the leading upper software engineering tools and data dictionaries. The interface will be effected via Software One’s Exchange gateway, starting in the third quarter. It will enable users to transfer data models and other information directly into the Huron MetaStor repository from such proprietary systems as the Information Engineering Workbench, Information Engineering Facility, Excelerator, Bachman Analyst, Oracle CASE Dictionary, and Datamanager. Amdahl claims that Huron will then enable customers to put applications into production in a fraction of the time normally required, and with good performance, while seeing maintenance costs for the new applications drastically reduced. Huron integrates an active on-line repository, high-level rules language, extended relational database management system, and full set of workbench development tools and enables applicatons to execute directly from information contained in the MetaStor repository.
