Those talks between Amdahl Corp and Cray Research Inc about the former taking the Cray Superserver 6400 OEM (CI No 2,193), have reached a successful conclusion, and Amdahl is to offer the systems under its own name worldwide apart from in Japan. Amdahl is calling the machine the Sparcsummit 6400E series and offers it with up to 64 processors, 16Gb main memory and 10Tb of disk.Amdahl has also upgraded its mainframe Unix to release UTS 4.3, which runs on IBM Corp System/390 mainframes as well as its own IBMulators. It claims up to 300% performance improvement over the previous release for Network File System and adds support for multi-mirror disk technology, Oracle7 and Informix, and has official XPG4 branding. No prices were given for anything.
