AMDAHL 5990 MAINFRAME TO BRITISH TELECOMMUNICATIONS

By CBR Staff Writer

One of the first customers to take delivery of Amdahl Corp’s hot new 5990 mainframe, which offers uniprocessor performance well ahead of that of the 3090, and in the top configuration thought by many to outperform the 3090/600S, is British Telecommunications Plc, putting in a 5990700 at its Reigate Computer Centre: the machine was chosen for outperforming the 5890300E by 50% and for its low power consumption and small footprint; it has 256Mb, 64 channels, and the Multiple Domain Feature partitioning.
