Advanced Micro Devices Inc has won Acer America Inc as a customer for its Intel-compatible K6 chip. Acer, a potential volume shipper and just the sort of company AMD needs to win over, will still use Intel Corp Pentium chips for its new boxes, but says it will use the AMD parts in its low-end Aspire series of personal computers. AMD has signed up Digital Equipment Corp, Fujitsu Ltd and German PC maker Vobis Computer since the K6 launch.
