Sunnyvale, California-based Advanced Micro Devices Inc has unveiled a single-chip Small Computer Systems Interface controller, the PCSCSI II, which integrates all the functionality of a Fast SCSI-2 adaptor board onto a single chip, significantly lowering the cost of adaptor boards; Advanced Micro said the PCSCSI II contains the basic functionality of an 8-bit SCSI Peripheral Component Interconnect adaptor board on one chip and has equal performance on an adaptor and a system motherboard: it is $19.85; customer samples are available now, with volume shipments next quarter.
