On its own account, Advanced Micro Devices Corp, Sunnyvale has announced beta site sampling of 30MHz version of the Am29000 32 bit RISC microprocessor, which it rates at 20 MIPS on the Dhrystone benchmark. It also announced volume availability of the 16MHz 11 MIPS, 20MHz 14 MIPS and 25MHz 17 MIPS versions of the part. The company says it will be sampling the Am29027 Floating PointProcessor in the third quarter and has added two optional support chips, the Am29041 Data Transfer controller, and the Am29062 Integrated Cache Unit. It is promising a 35 MIPS version of the 29000 for next year and a 50 MIPS version in 1991.
