Advanced Micro Devices Inc has told analysts that it expects operating profit and earnings per share to significantly improve during 2006, according to Reuters.

The Sunnyvale, California-based company said its server chips would drive sales but that its products for consumer devices would also become increasingly important.

CFO Bob Rivet said he expects shipments of AMD microprocessors to grow next year at double the projected industry growth rate of 10%. Server sales would lead the way, he said.

COO Dirk Meyer said SME and consumer markets were also both key growth areas for AMD microprocessors.
