Advanced Micro Devices Inc is putting the pedal to the metal in its CPU clock speed race with Intel Corp. Sources close to the company suggest that it will announce a 650MHz version of its Athlon chip – as well as outlining the technical details of the 500MHz, 550MHz and 600MHz versions – on August 9. Intel Corp’s 600MHz Pentium III was launched yesterday.
