Yields for the K7, Advanced Micro Devices Inc’s next generation processor, may be better than expected, industry reports are now suggesting. The K7, expected to emerge in 500, 550 and 600MHz versions, with the first parts available next month, is likely to produce around the same performance as Intel Corp’s Pentium III. AMD is hoping to avoid the manufacturing and yield problems that have stifled its previous efforts to compete effectively against Intel.
