Advanced Micro Devices Inc is trying not to repeat the problems it has had in past with producing reliable chip designs in high volume by licensing CircuitScape deisgn methodology tools from Moscape Inc. AMD has been using tools from the Santa Clara, California-based company on the Athlon and K8 chip designs for the last eight months. The tools are designed to check the functional integrity of chips before they actually reach the design stage, checking for issues like cross coupling noise. Sun Microsystems Inc has also been using CircuitScape in the design of its microprocessor and system on a chip devices.
