Advanced Micro Devices Inc, deep in legal tangles with Intel Corp over its second source agreement on the iAPX-86 family, is tipped to tweak the lion’s tail further with a 20MHz version of the 80286 to follow on from its 16MHz version: Intel’s fastest is 12MHz because the company wants to move as many people as possible onto the 80386 and not have them seduced with a 16-bit part that can be nearly as powerful running 16-bit code, and that as the basis of much cheaper machines.
