AMD has expanded Phenom II and AMD Athlon II processor families with various new processors for mainstream desktop computing market.
According to AMD, the new offerings include, Phenom II X2 555 Black Edition processor, a 3.2GHz dual-core desktop processor for Microsoft Windows 7 system platform; and the new AMD Athlon II X4 635 processor, designed to provide quad-core performance to handle multitasking and multi-threaded applications.
The company said that the new processors enable OEMs and system builders to develop PC services optimised for Windows 7, and are suitable for consumers interested in HD entertainment, casual gaming, digital file editing and social-media networking.
When combined with ATI Radeon 5800 Series graphics cards and AMD 7-series chipsets, the new processors provide consumers with HD entertainment experience and support for DirectX 11 gaming feature. In addition, it supports Socket AM3 compatibility for motherboards based on the upcoming AMD 800-series chipset, with advanced multitasking performance, the company claims.
The 80 W, 3.2GHz AMD Phenom II X2 555 processor is priced at $99, the 95W, 2.9GHz Athlon II X4 635 processor is priced at $119, the 65W 3.1GHz Athlon II X2 255 processor is priced at $74, the 95W 3.0GHz Athlon II X3 440 processor at $84 and the 65W 2.6GHz Phenom II X4 910e processor is priced at $169.
