Following in the tracks of Intel Corp’s SpeedStep, Advanced Micro Devices has announced its own power-saving technology for its mobile chip range, code-named Gemini. To be introduced with the 0.18 micron versions of its K6-2 and K6-3 chips for notebook computers next year. Gemini will allow a user to select a maximum performance setting for the chip, a minimum power consumption setting or a medium point between the two, by tweaking the notebook’s BIOS settings. Intel will introduce its mobile Pentium using the SpeedStep technology in the first quarter of next year.
