Semiconductor company Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) has announced the AMD OpenCL Coding Competition.
The competition will be run by software development leader TopCoder and is intended to encourage the creation of applications that take advantage of OpenCL as well as AMD Fusion accelerated processing unit (APU) architecture.
AMD Fusion Experience Program. corporate vice-president Manju Hegde said that an inflection point has been reached in the computing industry with evolving chip architectures and the shift to common programming interfaces and industry standards, which enable developers to enable amazing new experiences.
Hegde said, "The OpenCL Coding Competition is just the beginning of a new wave of application development by the software community as they embrace heterogeneous computing across multiple platforms."
The OpenCL Coding Competition has $50,000 in prizes.
AMD has also said that it is collaborating on a new book for developers, ‘Heterogeneous Computing with OpenCL’.
