Shipley, West Yorkshire-based Amber Logic Ltd has unveiled the CryptaLine PC Card data and facsimile modem range. The offerings are said to be able to encrypt data transmitted from a portable computer over public access/X.25 networks, with encryption performed in the modem using an encryption key. The family comprises two data and facsimile modems: CryptaLine 288 and CryptaLine 144 with DES or IDEA encryption. The modems operate at uncompressed data speeds up to 28.8Kbps and facsimile at up to 14.4Kbps, while V.42bis or MNP5 data compression is also available. In addition to DES and IDEA, the modems are also said to include standard, programmable and pass-through dial-back security, and storage for up to 20 user-identities and passwords.
