Amazon Web Services has added support for credit card payment in eleven additional countries, which means that customers can pay for their AWS technologies in currencies familiar to them.
The currencies that will now be available are: Australian Dollars, Swiss Francs, Danish Kroner, Euros, British Pounds, Hong Kong Dollars, Japanese Yen, Norwegian Kroner, New Zealand Dollars, Swedish Kronor and South African Rand.
The idea behind this is to make paying for customers simpler by allowing them to identify with a currency that is familiar to them. Bills will be computed in USD and then converted to preferred currencies at ‘competitive’ exchange rates.
The update was announced by Chief Evangelist, Jeff Barr on the AWS blog who stated that: "This support comes in addition to our existing support for US Dollars (USD). This will relieve your accounting department of the burden of paying and tracking conversion fees and other costs associated with the use of foreign currencies (be sure to share this news with your accounting department and your CFO)."
Barr, continued: "Your preferred currency will be used in the Billing Console Dashboard, the Bills page, and in your Payment History. Pricing for AWS services and the AWS Billing Reports will still be shown in USD."
