Amazon to launch Kindle Fire tablet, e-readers on 25 October in UK

The firm is also planning to release its Lending Library in the UK

By CBR Staff Writer

Online retailer is planning to launch the new Kindle Fire HD tablet and Kindle Paperwhite e-readers on 25 October 2012 in the UK.

Currently opened for pre-order before its official launch, the new devices are on sale in the US and will go on sale in the UK, Germany, Italy, Spain and France this month.

The firm is also planning to release its Lending Library in the UK, which will allow Amazon Prime subscribers to borrow e-books free of charge with no due dates.

Following a legal action in which publishers along with Apple had been accused by the Department of Justice of attempting influence the price of e-books on the iTunes and Amazon, the price of e-books on Amazon and on iTunes are anticipated to fall.

The new 8.9-inch Kindle Fire HD features a 1920-by-1200 resolution screen and operates on either Wi-Fi or 4G, while the new Paperwhite e-readers feature sharper screens and longer battery life.

The new Kindle Fire HD tablets also feature a front-facing camera, combined with a customised, pre-installed application from Skype that allows users to video chat for free.

Amazon’s new tablet line-up is also expected to support its battle with rivals, including Google and Microsoft.
