Amazon rolls out 4K video streaming

All members can now watch selected movies at $19.99 with 4K resolution.

Amazon has introduced 4K video service to its Prime members, which can be accessed through the company’s Amazon Instant Video app and is compatible with Ultra HD smart TVs.

Prime members will not have to pay any additional costs to access the service to watch titles such as Alpha House, Transparent, Gortimer Gibbon’s Life on Normal Street and Orphan Black.

The company is planning to roll out 4K quality videos of other shows including Mozart in the Jungle, Hand of God, Bosch ,The After and Red Oakswill early next year.

The company has also rolled out selected Sony Pictures Entertainment movies in Ultra HD.

Amazon has also announced that all customers will have access to purchase a selection of movies from Sony Pictures, starting at $19.99 with 4K resolution.

Amazon Digital Video vice president Michael Paull said: "We want to deliver the best entertainment experience and offering Ultra HD movies and TV shows raises the bar on quality and innovation that customers have come to expect from Amazon."

"We’re also excited that Ultra HD is the latest benefit of the Amazon Prime membership, giving members instant access to great movies and TV shows in a premium picture resolution at no additional cost."
