Moderating its disappointment at losing out to IBM when the Amadeus consortium of 1100 mainframe users opted for 3090s for their combined airline reservation system, Unisys yesterday announced that Amadeus had ordered five of the new top-end 2200 600 mainframes, valued at $40m for the Amadeus Global Travel Distribution Fare Quote system, which will run under the Air France TOP operating system that was written for 1100 series mainframes. The database will start with 45m fares.
