In preparation for 1992 and the Single Market within the European Community, Altos Computer Systems Inc has appointed UK managing director Archie Thomas as its first president of European operations, with a brief to float off the European operation to raise capital for expansion, perhaps even seeking local quotations for the shares of each of the eight subsidiary companies within the European group. European sales have been growing at 60% annually over the past two or three years and now account for 50% of worldwide turnover according to Thomas. Altos has not said where it will be going for future chips, but is planning systems in the 100- to 200-user range and is discussing technology transfer agreements with chip manufacturers.
