Gateway 2000 Inc’s $194m Advanced Logic Research Inc acquisition (CI No 3,186) is to begin selling new desktops and its first notebook PCs that will be custom-configured for buyers. They’ll be sold through VARs and distributors unlike Gateway’ direct model, and are being manufactured by the parent company. The low- end Evolution LT 2000 portable uses a 133MHz Pentium or higher- clock speed MMX Pentiums, come with 2Gb disk, 16Mb RAM, 12 dual- scan screen and cost from $2,300. The LT9000 uses MMX Pentiums, 13.3 active matrix display and 2Gb disk and costs from $3,850. The Evolution 4000, 5000 and 6000 PCs uses MMX Pentium, and MMX Pentium IIs, priced from $1,000-up.
