Moscow-based Kami Corp, Steepler and the Radiophy-sica concern have begun operating a new paging ser-vice through a venture called Alphacom. Radiophysica holds a licence to provide paging services and is providing a technical support for the project. Kami and Steepler, both large distributors of computer and office products, are supplying the network equipment and distributing pagers using their networks of dealers. They replace several US partners with which Radiophysica had earlier formed the Radiopage joint venture. The system now covers all of Moscow, including the Sheremetievo and Vnukovo airports, located some distance from the centre of the city. Alphacom director Andrey Sergeiev says that to eliminate certain dead zones in the centre of Moscow and to expand coverage in the Moscow suburbs Alphacom will soon install three new base stations.
