Alpha Processor Inc (API) is planning to offer a low-cost Alpha chipset in the fall. The UP1000 is based on Advanced Micro Devices Inc’s Iron Gate chipset. It shares a number of AMD Athlon-compatible features such as a ‘slot B’ connection and a 21264 Alpha bus. The motherboard has 2Mb of Level 2 cache memory. There are no prices as yet but it should be cheaper than its $6,600 sibling, the UP2000. The board is expected to be available in September or October.
