Woburn, Massachusetts-based Alpha Industries Inc and Florence, Italy-based Segnalamento Marittimo ed Aereo SpA, of the Finbreda Group have entered into a long-term, joint venture agreement: Alpha and SMA are to design and manufacture Gallium Arsenide Millimetre Wave Monolithic Integrated Circuits and modules for smart sensor applications; also, the agreement includes the design and manufacture of components to be used for the European communications and space markets; the venture will begin with an initial SMA investment of $3m, and SMA is to represent Alpha’s Advanced Technology & Products Divisions in Italy; Alpha Industries is a manufacturer of microwave ceramics and semiconductor devices, microwave-millimetre wave hybrid and Gallium Arsenide multifunction subsystems.
