ALLTEL AGREES ACQUISITION OF CP NATIONAL CORP

Alltel Corp has agreed a $283m share exchange acquisition of utilities holding company CP National Corp of San Francisco, which does about a third of its $246m annual business in telecommunications, and is also in gas and electricity: the buy will take Alltel into the West.
