The Host Interface/2 adaptor from Alloy Computer Products Inc is now shipping. Host Interface/2, or HI/2, interfaces boards developed for the IBM Personal XT to interface to IBM’s MicroChannel bus. This means over 80,000 existing Alloy PC-Plus network users can interface the PC-Plus family of products to IBM Personal System/2 MicroChannel architecture. The network configures systems with 8MHz PC- or AT-on-a-card workstations which plug into the host server, with terminals on users’ desks providing the workstation interface. Alloy says that unlike traditional networks which connect remote Personals with a network wire, its PC-Plus network is a local area network-in-a-box which uses the file server bus as a Lan wire. In addition to providing a migration for PC-Plus network users to IBM’s MicroChannel, Alloy’s HI/2 adaptor can be used in other applications. Information Technology Inc is to combine it with an expansion bus chassis to provide a 3270 gateway product on the MicroChannel bus.
