Mountain View, California-headquartered Allied Telesyn International – formerly Allied Telesis Inc – has announced a series of additions to its 3600 Ethernet hub range. First up are the AT-3624TR and AT-3624T, two 24-port, Simple Network Management Protocol hubs, with the former offering Telco- and the latter RJ-45 connectors. According to the company, the hubs can be used in standalone configurations or stacked to provide one repeater with up to 192 ports. The new offerings are also said to have an interchangeable backbone connection port, for easy network changes. This backbone port supports AUI, thin-net, RJ-45 and 10Base-FL media connections. Both the hubs list for ú1,200 and are shipping now. The company has also released two Ethernet swit ching hubs, said to provide Fast Ethernet and Asynchronous Transfer Mode access to the AT-3600 family. The AT-3690 has eight switched 10Base-T Ethernet ports, plus a Fast Ethernet (100Base-X) 100Mbps connection for a backbone or server, while the AT-3695 has eight Ethernet ports and a 155Mbps Asynchronous Mode port. Both offerings are said to incorporate Telnet and Simple Network Management Protocol capabilities and are said to be compatible with network management software including Hewlett-Packard Co’s HP OpenView, SunNet Manager and IBM NetView. The company also says that that they are software upgradeable over the network using the BOOTP/Trivial File Transfer Protocol or via a plug-in electrically programmable ROM board. The AT-3695 implements the ATM Forum’s local area network emulation 1.0 specification, and takes its local network emulation technology from Fore Systems Inc, with which Allied Telesyn has become a FOREthought Partner. The device is also said to contain an Asynchronous Mode User-to-Network Interface, UNI 3.1-compliant interface, which reportedly supports media interface types including Synchronous Optical Network OC-3c and SDH-1 multimode fibre connections. Both the AT-3690 and AT-3695 are scheduled to ship in the latter part of this year. No prices yet. Finally, the company has announced its entry into the Apple Computer Inc market with a set of four transceivers to connect Apple machines into local networks. The range comprises the AT-MX60T for 10Base-T connection; the AT-MX70 for 10Base-2 connection; the AT-MX80F for FL/FOIRL fibre optic connection; and the AT-MX90F for FL/FOIRL fibre optic connection. All are said to feature polarity protection and correction, link integrity tests and diagnostic light-emitting diodes. Additionally, they come with a 20 cable and 14-pin Apple Computer Inc Attachment Unit for Ethernet connection. The boards will start at a promotional price of less than ú27 for the AT-MX60T and AT-MX70, says the company. No shipping dates or further prices available yet.
