Mountain View, California-based Allied Telesis Inc has introduced a local network repeater/hub, the AT-3012T. The 13-port Ethernet repeater comes equipped with 12 unshielded twisted pair ports and one 10Base-T interface port. The interface can be equipped with either a drop cable, 10Base-T twisted pair, or fibre optic transceiver. The product also will be available with an optional Simple Network Management Protocol upgrade. Telesis says the AT-3012T series repeaters include a custom ASIC and increased reliability. The repeaters can be operated as part of a stand-alone workgroup or local network, or they may be connected to the corporate backbone through the interface. Diagnostic indicators at the front of each unit give continuous status on data packet activity for every unshielded twisted pair segment, as well as the AUI interface. Both manual and automatic partitioning are available, making it possible to isolate individual ports for trouble-shooting or other purposes.
