One of the few compatible building society mergers in the past few years – in computer terms at least – was the one that created the Alliance & Leicester: both were Burroughs users and the society is remaining true to Unisys Corp with a UKP10.3m order for an A19 mainframe to go into a new computer centre in Carlton Hayes, Leicestershire and replace the A17 at the Oadby base.
