ALLIANCE BETWEEN IBM, DEC, HEWLETT-PACKARD AND APOLLO?

By CBR Staff Writer

Our Monday story that an unholy alliance between IBM, DEC, Hewlett-Packard and Apollo was preparing an announcement of plans for a rival Unix standard to that of AT&T Co and Sun Microsystems (CI No 924), appeared in the Boston Globe on the same day, and was picked up by the Wall Street Journal on Tuesday: there is still no conformation from any of the parties believed to be involved, but industry watchers report that numerous East Coast meetings have been held to plan details of the move; analyst John McCarthy at Forrester Research believes the announcement has now been put back a week to give time to drum up some international support for it.
