AllAdvantage.com Inc, the company that pioneered the idea of paying web surfers to view adverts while they use the internet in March, has signed up its first UK users. Using a Viewbar browser plug-in that displays advertisements, users can earn up to $0.50 per viewing hour, or around 31 pence. The average pay out among US users was $50 in August, said the company.

It costs a subscriber of a UK subscription-free internet service provider (ISP) between 0.60 pounds and 2.40 pounds to dialup the internet, so signing up to AllAdvantage represents a between 13% and 50% discount on the cost of access. A US user could easily pay ISP subscription fees with a $50 payout, but it seems the best a UK user can manage is discounts.

But AllAdvantage already has competition in the UK. A London-based firm, Sharkhunt.com Ltd, recently launched a similar service, paying 25 pence ($0.40) per hour, with the addition of shopping, auction, web-based email and calendar channels on the Viewbar-equivalent software.
