According to reports on Algerian state radio, sabotage attacks on four telephone exchanges in and around Tiaret – 140 miles southwest of Algiers – have cut off communications for around half the population of the town: a radio broadcast relay station in Tablat, 30 miles south east of Algiers, was also hit, as was an as yet unused telephone exchange in Chebli which is about the same distance the other side of the capital; in total, state radio reported a total of 27 attacks in 15 different areas.
