Alcatel, the Telecom division of Alcatel Alsthom NV, has announced it has won a GSM supply contract with TM International, a joint venture between Telekom Malaysia and Bangladeshi industrial firm A.K Khan and Co Ltd. The company will supply a nationwide GSM mobile communication network including mobile switching equipment, radio base stations and microwave transmission links. The first phase of the network was launched in November last year and once completed it will have capacity for around 160,000 subscribers. Alcatel already supplies Telekom Malaysia with digital cellular networks in Malaysia, Sri Lanka and Malawi.
