Generale des Eaux SA has awarded Alcatel NV a contract to supply and install an experimental cordless phone network on the existing cable infrastructure in the Val-de-Marne area east of Paris: the network, which will be based on the DECT Digital European Cordless Telecommunications standard, is expected to start up in April in approximately 2,300 homes; the value of the contract was not disclosed.
