Recent ecomimic and market forces have led to a stockpiling of around 40 million handsets and fears are mounting that the market may be reaching saturation.

Making swift moves to counter this threat, a spokeswoman for Alcatel revealed to the press that the company had shut down its two handset factories at Illkirch in Alsace and Laval in Mayenne for the current week and would halt output for a second week in April.

It’s because of high stocks, the spokeswoman explained.
