Ascend Communications Inc has gone to Alcatel SA for its set of three Asynchronous Digital Subscriber Line chips. Ascend is to ship both telecoms central office and ADSL modems in the second quarter of next year. Alcatel has also won a contract to supply technology for Bell Atlantic Corp’s commercial ADSL service, one of the first large scale deployments of ADSL.
