The Moroccan Office National des Postes et Telecommunications has awarded Alcatel NV’s Spanish company, Alcatel Standard Electrica SA the contract to supply Morocco’s rural areas with modern telecommunications equipment, the official Moroccan news agency MAP reported. The contract is to supply equipment worth the equivalent of $21.27m. The European Investment Bank will put up the finance for the deal. Morocco has invested the equivalent of $584m in the last two years to expand its telecommunications network. Alcatel, L M Ericsson Telefon AB of Sweden and BCE Inc’s Bell Canada International are the main foreign companies involved in projects to modernise the Moroccan telecommunications infrastructure.
