Alcatel NV has signed a joint venture contract with the Shanghai Bell Telephone Equipment Manufacturing Co to assemble PABXs: the new Shanghai Bell Alcatel Business Systems Co Ltd will also be responsible for the distribution, installation and maintenance of business equipment in China; Alcatel will have a 54% stake, and will transfer technology of the 4300 PABX to it; the venture is its ninth in China.
